FeedbackFruits
My FeedbackFruit activities/templates are missing in Moodle 4.1, how can I resolve this?
As Moodle 4.1 is a new instance of Moodle, your Moodle 3.9 account and Moodle 4.1 account must be merged. This can be done on FeedbackFruits’ end.
- Create a new FeedbackFruits shell activity in your Moodle 4.1 unit. For more information, see How-to: Add a FeedbackFruits activity.
- Once created, access the in-activity support chat. Response times are typically under 10 minutes.
- Copy and paste the following text to request to merge your account:
“Hi, my name is First Name Last Name, could you please merge my Monash University accounts, my email address is firstname.lastname@monash.edu”
- Once FeedbackFruits support has merged your account, refresh the page and then check the 'copy past activities' list. You should be able to see past activities and templates that were in your FeedbackFruits library.
How can I troubleshoot my FeedbackFruits activity?
It is recommended that you contact FeedbackFruits support directly via the in-activity help chat (blue message icon in the bottom left corner). FeedbackFruits have a dedicated support team that monitors help requests 24 hours, 5 days of the week. Response times are typically under 5 minutes. If contacted via the in-app help chat, FeedbackFruits support team will also be able to immediately identify the activity and unit which requires troubleshooting.

How do I allocate groups in my FeedbackFruits activity?
FeedbackFruits is integrated with Moodle. Any groups and groupings created in your Moodle unit can be selected within the FeedbackFruits activity. When you are using FeedbackFruits for the first time, you may see a screen saying 'syncing students and groups' when adding students to the activity.
Depending on the amount of students, this can take up to 10 minutes. If it takes longer, contact FeedbackFruits support via the in-app help chat. This should only happen the first time you're using FeedbackFruits in your Moodle unit.
When can I see who the students are reviewing?
When using a deadline in Peer Review and Group Member Evaluation, students are allocated reviews after the hand-in deadline is passed. Before that time neither you nor the students can see who they have to review. When the 'allow late hand-in' option is enabled, students that hand-in after the deadline has passed will be allocated a review on a 'first-come, first-serve' basis. This way of allocating reviews is also the case when you have not set a deadline.
For more information on how peers are assigned work, see this article here.
Can I track student progress for the FeedbackFruits activity?
Once the students have made progress in the activity the analytics window will become visible. Once the 'statistics per active students' are available, you can follow your students' progress in the statistics overview at the top of the assignment, or at the statistics overview at each respective assignment step.
There is an option to download the statistics in a .xlsx file. You can download these analytics by clicking on the 'download' button in the introduction window of the assignment. This is especially useful for assignments that contain larger amounts of students.
Why does my Overall student progress overview show that most groups haven't finished reviewing, even though I know that all students have completed their reviews?
This can happen when group sizes for the Peer review or Group member evaluation activity vary, and you have set an amount of required reviews that is greater than the number of reviews that was eventually made by students.
When setting up an activity, you can set a fixed required amount of reviews as such to make sure all peers in one group review each other.
FeedbackFruits is currently working on an optimisation for the tool that will prevent this from happening.
How can I see who the students are reviewing?
The easiest way to figure out who is set to review who is by downloading the assignment analytics in a .xlsx file as mentioned above. This download will become available only after the students have made progress.
This file provides a concise overview of all student activity in the assignment such as submissions, review comments and ratings.
Are students able to download the feedback they received?
Yes, both students and teachers are able to download feedback in PDF format. For more information, see this guide here.
Can I delete a student submission?
Submissions can only be deleted by students when the hand-in deadline has not yet passed. This can be done by clicking on the 'trash' icon on the far-right of the hand-in. After the deadline has passed it is no longer possible for students to delete the submissions as that could interfere with the reviewing process.
If you need the student submission to be removed after the deadline, contact the FeedbackFruits in-app help chat as soon as possible.
Do I or students receive any notifications when the assignment is published?
Yes, FeedbackFruits sends out notification emails about things happening in learning activities. More information about when, how, or for what you receive notifications can be found here.
How can I preview the FeedbackFruits assignment as a student?
Unfortunately, in Moodle the “switch role to Student ”feature does not allow you to preview/experience the FeedbackFruits activity as a student. If you have a separate student account for testing, you can preview the FeedbackFruits activity if logged into your separate student account.
For a general idea of the student view, the FeedbackFruits website also has articles which show you how the student perspective looks for a FeedbackFruits tool.
Can I copy an existing activity?
Yes, you can easily re-use a learning activity which you have set up previously by creating a new FeedbackFruits activity, then selecting “Past activities'' from the setup screen. All activities you have used or created previously will appear here. Select the activity you would like to re-use and the settings and configurations will automatically be applied. You can continue to edit and adjust the settings if required.
You can also re-use feedback criteria from a previous assignment. Find more information on how to copy criteria set here.
What browser works best with FeedbackFruits?
We recommend using Chrome or Firefox. Using Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer is not recommended.
Which file types are supported for student submission?
An overview of which file types are supported by a FeedbackFruits assignment can be found here.
Can I publish grades without releasing student feedback?
Yes, you can release grades but not the feedback for a FeedbackFruits activity by clicking the publish grades button and NOT clicking the publish feedback button.
The publish feedback button will publish comments and ratings students have received. While the publish grades button will apply any activity weightings and publish the overall grade for the student to the Moodle Gradebook.
Why do I get the following error “Sorry, but you do not currently have permissions to do that (Add unit-specific tool configurations)” when I set up a FeedbackFruits activity?
There are some features accessible via the Select content button which are only accessible for faculty administrators.
You do not need to click the Select content button to set up a FeedbackFruits activity. Simply click Save and display (after giving your activity a name). Then continue to set up your activity.
